Say It Loud

Like Spirit Day in high school, the holiday season is all about showing pride

Want to add seasonal flair to the kitchen but can't figure out which decorations will cause the least about of damage when they fall into the mashed potatoes?

Take the guesswork out of your Christmas disaster planning and consider flaunting a festive and safe homage to family chefs of the past - chefs whose recipes you might even be using to celebrate the season. Be cheeky or be subtle, but grab a holiday-themed apron to liven up the kitchen and spread good cheer. Knowing that kitchen messes won't interfere with specially chosen outfits is also a benefit worth it's weight in dry cleaner's bills.

"After all, the prepared host is the host who can enjoy his/her own party," says Catherine Gentile, the public relations manager of Farmingdale, N.Y.-based Bed Bath & Beyond.

Gentile offers these ideas to make holiday gatherings as stress-free as possible:

-"First, figure out your guest list."

-"Next, plan your menu. Be sure to have options for the variety of appetites at your table - including the children."

-"Take inventory. Make sure you have the essentials you will need to serve your holiday meal - both basics and serving pieces."
