For many people, the closet is their bedroom's biggest clutter culprit. And the hardest to tackle because it's all too convenient to just shut the door and forget about it.
"Your closet can easily create the most clutter," says Mildred Munjanganja, vice president of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based LifeOrganizers.com.
"Clear out your wardrobe by first separating out the 20 percent of your clothes that you love to wear from the 80 percent that is just taking up space," suggests Wenndi Freer, a clutter and space-clearing consultant and owner of Engage The Flow in Encinitas, Calif.
"Then sort through the 80-percent pile by color, size, texture etc. Make sure you only keep the clothes that fit and make you feel great! If you haven't worn it in the last year and especially if you haven't worn it in the last two or three years, let it go."
Once you've cleaned out your closet, Munjanganja suggests sorting the remaining clothes "in a way that makes sense, like colors together or pants in one area and shirts in another."
Finally, keep clutter in mind when you go shopping.
"Most people only use 20 percent of their stuff 80 percent of the time," Freer says. "Be careful to only buy items that you absolutely love or need because anything other will ultimately end up in this 80-percent category and be a waste of money."
